Bloodshot has been a bestseller since it launched, and the reason is the firing pattern. Where most compounds fire straight up, this one sweeps; Z-firing, V-firing, W-firing and fanned volleys, all in one item. The sky doesn’t just fill, it moves.

It opens with red and green tipped comets bursting into glittering golden brocades, backed by ruby red strobes and shimmering white tips. From there it runs through a fanned section of sky-filling brocades with purple stars, then a V-fired sequence of gold brocades tipped with small crackling dragon eggs. Midway through you get white comet tails sweeping into titanium salutes and orange strobes, and gold-to-silver spiders topped with crackle. The finale brings rapid tri-fired volleys of red-tipped comets bursting into brocades and cascading willows.

With 1,816g of powder behind 139 shots from 25mm and 30mm tubes, it’s a proper display piece; around 65 seconds of continuous action from one fuse.

Worth knowing before you buy: because this is heavily fanned, it needs clear space to the sides as well as overhead. Check for trees, fences and anything tall either side of where you’re setting it down.
