This is a case of quality over quantity. Forty-five shots sounds modest next to the 100-plus barrages, but The Phoenix packs 986g of powder behind them and fires from 25mm and 30mm tubes; so every single shot is a full-size break rather than a quick pop.

The effects are built around hang time. Big silver and gold brocade tails climb before opening into brocade crown king bursts that sit in the sky far longer than you’d expect from a cake this size. Through it you get violet dahlias, red, white and yellow plums, and sharp red and white strobes cutting across the softer gold. It’s a mixed shape barrage, so the firing pattern shifts as it runs rather than staying on one line.

At around 45 seconds it sits nicely in the middle of a display; big enough to feel like a moment, not so long that it takes over. Single ignition, one fuse, light it and leave it.
