Most selection boxes disappoint for the same reason: the fountains are over in five seconds and you’re left wondering where the money went. Jonathan’s built this one to fix that. Every fountain in the Fete box runs for 35 seconds or more, so eight fireworks genuinely gives you a display rather than a couple of minutes of shrugging.

You get six fountains, an 8-shot Roman candle and a rocket. Bedazzle and Jitterbug run 40 seconds each, with Fortune, Happy Panda and Swarming Bee at 35 seconds apiece, and Strobe Surge adding a punchier 20-second burst. Shimmering Sunrise gives you eight aerial shots from the candle, and Sky Blitz sends a rocket up to finish. There’s a decent amount of crackle running through it, so it’s lively rather than gentle.

The other thing that makes it work is space. It only needs 8 metres of viewing distance, which is realistic for a normal back garden — no field required. That, plus the mix of ground-level fountains you can watch up close, makes it a good choice for families with younger children or anyone doing a first Bonfire Night at home.
